What is a Bulldog second phone Line?
- Bulldog second phone line is simply an optional second phone line with its own phone number and all of the functionalities of your primary phone line. It is delivered over the broadband connection of your Unlimited broadband service. But unlike voice over broadband phone services offered by other providers, the second phone line is enabled by our next-generation broadband network that maintains quality of service on a par with your primary phone line.
- To use a Bulldog second phone line you need special broadband equipment with a port for a second line.
- Currently no additional call options or features can be applied to second line including anonymous call reject (ACR) which will be available in the near future.
- Bulldog-to-Bulldog calls from and to the primary/second phone line of any Bulldog subscriber, including yourself, are included at no extra charge.
- Customers on Anytime or Pay As You Go packages cannot subscribe to the second line
Why do I need a Bulldog second phone Line?
- A Bulldog second phone line is an ideal complement to your primary phone line. It is a low-cost alternative to installing a second physical phone line.
- You can chat on the primary line, while other household members talk on the second line and surf the internet, all at the same time.
- You can use your second line with a fax machine.
- You can distinguish between incoming calls from various friends and family.
What phone number will I get with my Bulldog second phone line?
- Bulldog’s second phone line comes with a standard UK geographic number, with an 01 or 02 prefix, just like your primary phone line.
- At present you cannot transfer an existing number to your Bulldog second phone line.
How do I get a Bulldog second phone line?
- You can order a Bulldog second phone line at the same time as ordering your Bulldog Unlimited service. If you already have a Bulldog Unlimited service you can upgrade by contacting our Customer Services team.
Will I need special equipment to use my Bulldog second phone line?
- To use a Bulldog second phone line you need broadband equipment with a port for a second line that is specially designed to work with our next-generation broadband network. When you select the second phone line option, we'll automatically add the correct equipment to your order.
- The broadband equipment is a Telsey CPVA500 Residential Gateway which comes with a second line port and costs £30.00. Different equipment will not work with Bulldog second line, even if it comes with a second line port.
Is Bulldog second line equipment compatible with my Mac?
- Bulldog is one of the few broadband providers which supports Macintosh users. (Mac OS 8.6 or higher is required to receive our broadband service.) However, Bulldog second phone line will not work if you need to connect your Macintosh via the USB port. Only the Ethernet port is supported.
Will I need a special phone/headset/microphone/software to use my Bulldog second phone line?
- No. To use your Bulldog second phone line, all you need is another ordinary touch-tone phone which plugs into the second line port on your special broadband equipment.
Do I need to install and configure my second line broadband equipment?
- The equipment is set up by Bulldog to configure itself. You simply connect it to your phone socket (after Bulldog services have been activated on your line) and it will auto-configure itself in a minute or two. You just then plug an ordinary phone into it.
- The second line equipment is also an ADSL modem, so you can connect it to you PC through an Ethernet cable or an USB port. Since it is pre-configured, you do not even need to insert the Broadband Username and Password that you would normally use to set up your connection. If you need to modify its data routing configurations, e.g. LAN, NAT, DHCP or firewall, then you can do this through its web user interface. For example, if you have multiple static IP addresses, then you must configure your LAN and firewall yourself through the web user interface. Please consult the manual to access the web user interface.
Who, and where, can I call using my Bulldog second phone line and what will I be charged?
- Unlike voice over broadband services offered by other providers, your Bulldog second phone line can be used to make calls just like on your primary line. The call charges are the published standard tariffs as no call options are available for second phone lines at present.
Can I call UK emergency services on my Bulldog second phone line?
- You can call UK emergency service numbers (112 & 999) on your Bulldog second phone line phone line as long as your broadband is working normally.
- If you have a power failure at your home, you will not be able to make any calls using your Bulldog second phone line. Simply use your primary phone line in this case. The same applies if you switch your broadband equipment off at the mains power supply.
Am I tied in to my Bulldog second phone line for a set amount of time?
- Unlike voice services offered by other providers, your Bulldog second phone line has only a six month minimum contract. (Thirty day’s notice of cancellation is required.)
If I cancel my Bulldog second phone line, can I keep my other services?
- Your Bulldog second phone line is an optional service on top of your Unlimited service, so you can cancel without affecting your primary phone line or broadband services.
If I cancel my Unlimited service, can I use the second line broadband equipment with other broadband providers?
- By cancelling your Unlimited service, you will also cancel your Bulldog second phone line. You can keep your broadband equipment with the second line port, but remember it is specially designed to work only with our next-generation broadband network, so it will not work on other providers’ connections, not even as a plain ADSL modem (since it is pre-configured to work on a Bulldog Line).
