What does Bulldog's phone service offer?
- The Bulldog Line offers the standard features of a traditional phone line and much more. We provide all the features you’d usually expect including caller ID, call waiting and voicemail. We also offer a range of additional extras such as an unlimited UK call plan and international calling package, as well as free Bulldog-to-Bulldog calls. You don't need any special equipment - you continue to use all the telephone sets you have been using previously. Differently from a traditional phone line, however, the Bulldog Line is broadband-ready so this means no more old-fashioned, slow, dial up. With the Bulldog Line you can choose one of our up to 8 or 16 meg always-on broadband packages or just go for the no monthly fee Pay-As-You-Go service.
Why do I need a Bulldog phone line to receive the Broadband services?
- Bulldog’s broadband services employ an innovative technology called Local Loop Unbundling (LLU). We “unplug” your current copper phone line from BT equipment and connect it via our network to the Cable & Wireless global network. Because your home or business is then directly connected to our network, we can offer higher speed broadband than most other providers for a similar price.
Can I retain my BT number?
- In virtually all cases you can keep your BT number and transfer it across to Bulldog. Please do not cancel your existing BT service before ordering from Bulldog, as we will take care of this during the switchover process.
Can I retain my cable telephone number?
- Unfortunately not, cable customers will be provided with a new line and telephone number.
Will I lose connection when you transfer (or 'port') my BT phone number?
- Downtime will be negligible, with a potential loss of phone service for two hours, but typically under 30 minutes. Please note that during this period you will not be able to call emergency services on this phone line.
Can I retain my carrier pre-selection service (CPS) or indirect access service (IA) once I have subscribed to Bulldog?
- No. On placing your order for any Bulldog combined broadband and phone service, your CPS service will automatically be cancelled and you won't be able to use IA. We recommend you therefore check your contract with your existing provider to ensure there is no outstanding commitment on your part.
What is the international call plan?
- This additional call plan can be added to your Bulldog Line at anytime and provides you with a discount against calling landlines in 29 major destinations. You can add this option at the time of order or have it added to your bill at a later stage. Read more about our phone calls and plans
What is the unlimited UK call plan option?
- This additional call plan can be added to your Bulldog Line at anytime and provides you with unlimited UK calls to any number starting 01 or 02 at anytime of the day or night. You can add this option at the time of order or have it added to your bill at a later stage. Read more about our phone calls and plans
Is there a credit limit on my phone calls?
- There is a credit limit of £150 per month. The credit limit is assigned to protect customers from fraud and excessive expenditure. The £150 limit includes all recurring charges (including monthly subscription) plus phone usage charges. Should you near your limit, Bulldog may contact you to advise you. Bulldog may, at its discretion, extend the credit limit in certain cases.
With my new phone service, can I call all types of numbers that I would with BT?
- Of course!
Will it cost any different for people to call me when I switch to Bulldog?
- No. People calling you will be charged exactly the same price they would pay if they were calling a BT number. If they too have a Bulldog Line, your calls will then be free as we offer unlimited Bulldog-to-Bulldog calls at no extra charge.
Do Bulldog numbers show up in the phone directory?
- Your number will automatically appear in the directory unless you state that you don't want it to. You can select the ex-directory option when signing up online or over the telephone.
Can I connect a standard fax or modem to a Bulldog phone line?
- Yes. We recommend you use industry-standard microfilters to ensure optimum performance.
What features are included with the service?
- We include standard call features such as Anonymous Calling (141), Call Announce and Return (1471), basic Voicemail (1571) at no extra charge. We also offer a range of additional features (and a great-value feature bundle too) that can be added to your Bulldog Line at anytime. Read more about our Call features.
Can I call premium rate services?
- As a standard setting on, you'll find that you won't be able call any premium rate numbers. If you'd like to call premium rate services, you need to make a £50 payment which we will use as prepayment against calls you make. You can make this payment by credit or debit card by calling 150 from your phone and selecting option 1 . Please allow 24 hours for your service to be reset
Does Bulldog route calls made via international calling cards?
- Yes – with the exception of those that rely on indirect access (IA).
Does Bulldog provide services for customers with special needs?
- Yes. Bulldog supports Typetalk, the RNID’s national telephone relay service for deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, deaf-blind and speech-impaired people.
- We also support 195 directory enquiries.
