If I have a standard up to 8 meg service, can I upgrade to DoubleSpeed Broadband?
-
Yes. Since DoubleSpeed Broadband is based on the new ADSL2+ technology, we will need to connect your line to different equipment at your local exchange. It is very much like ‘unplugging’ your line from the current equipment and ‘plugging’ it into new equipment. Since these activities happen at your local exchange they are carried about by BT on Bulldog’s behalf.
We are currently working together with BT to provide a seamless migration process. The service upgrade will normally take effect within 10 working days after we receive your order and your service may be interrupted for about 5 hours on the date of migration. In that period, you should use other means than your Bulldog phone line to make outgoing calls, including calls to emergency services.
What speeds will I get when I upgrade to DoubleSpeed Broadband?
-
In most cases, you will see an increase from our standard 8 meg service in both download and upload speeds, up to 20 meg and 1 meg respectively. Through your online account, you will find the download speed estimate for DoubleSpeed Broadband services that can be supported on your line.
In some cases, the increase in download speed will be limited by the distance from your local phone exchange and quality of your line, while the increase in upload speed will be less affected.
For example, if you live close to the exchange, you can expect an increase in download speed from 8 meg to between 15 and 20 meg, while if you live far from it and / or the quality of your line is poor, the increase in download speed may be limited to between 10 and 12 meg. In these cases, the increase in upload speed from ½ meg to 1 meg is still likely to be obtained.
How much does it cost to upgrade to DoubleSpeed Broadband?
- There is a standard service re-grade administration fee of £20 / £30 via your online account / Customer Service respectively. DoubleSpeed Broadband services (Unlimited Plus / Anytime Plus) cost an extra £5 / month on top of their standard 8 meg service counterparts (Unlimited / Anytime).

How do I set-up my new equipment for DoubleSpeed Broadband?
- DoubleSpeed Broadband is based on the new ADSL2+ technology that requires ADSL2+ compatible equipment at your premises. You must connect your ADSL2+ compatible equipment to your line as soon as you receive it so that it is ready when we activate the service. Please note that you should continue using the same username and password you currently use with your existing service and equipment.
