Small Business 2nd & 3rd Phone Line

What are 2nd & 3rd Small Business phone lines?

  • Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines are simply an optional 2nd & 3rd phone line with its own phone number and all of the functionalities of your primary Business phone line. It is delivered as a virtual circuit over the broadband connection of our Small Business service. But unlike voice over internet / broadband voice services offered by other providers, the 2nd and 3rd lines are enabled by our next-generation broadband network that maintains quality of service on a par with your primary line. At present Voicemail is not available for Bulldog 2nd & 3rd phone lines but it will be enabled in the near future.

How does it relate to my primary Small Business phone line?

  • Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines comes with all of the functionalities of your primary Business phone line.
  • All calls cost the same as on your primary line, which means all inclusive calls and discounts applied to calls on your primary line will also be offered on the 2nd line at no extra charge.
  • Bulldog-to-Bulldog calls from and to the primary / 2nd & 3rd line of any Bulldog subscriber including yourself are always included at no extra charge.
  • If you have the unlimited UK call-plan, you benefit from unlimited UK calls to numbers starting 01 and 02 on your primary but not your 2nd & 3rd lines unless this feature has been selected for the 2nd and or 3rd lines.
  • If you add our International Call Option, the international call discount will also be applied on your primary but not your 2nd & 3rd lines unless this feature has been selected for the 2nd and or 3rd lines.
  • All inclusive and paid-for call features activated on your primary line will also be activated on the 2nd & 3rd lines with the same user interfaces at no extra charge.
  • At present Voicemail is not available for Bulldog 2nd & 3rd Small Business phone line but it will be enabled in the near future.

Why do I need Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines?

  • Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines are an ideal complement to your primary phone line. It is a low-cost alternative to installing a second physical phone line because it is delivered as a virtual circuit over the broadband connection. It is perfect for sole traders, home offices, or small businesses to:
  • Connect fax or credit / debit card machines
  • Split the volume of incoming and outgoing Small Business calls with another sales / customer service line
  • Divert overflow of incoming Small Business calls for the primary line using the Call Forward on Busy feature (available separately)
  • Remove all incoming and outgoing personal / residential calls from your primary Small Business phone line
  • You can conduct Small Business over your primary line, while other household members / office colleagues talk on the 2nd & 3rd lines and surf the Internet, all at the same time.

What phone number will I get with Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines?

  • Unlike voice over internet / broadband voice services offered by other providers, Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines come with a true UK geographic number, with 01/02 prefix, just like your primary Small Business phone line.
  • At present you get a new UK geographic number with the 2nd & 3rd lines, but in the near future you will also be able to transfer your existing UK geographic number to it.

Can I use Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines to get rid of my BT phone line?

  • Small Business comes with a primary phone line that replaces your BT line and gets rid of the BT line rental. In the near future you will also be able to transfer your other BT line’s number to Small Business 2nd & 3rd Small phone lines and get rid of another BT line rental.

  • You can order Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines at the same time you order Small Business Broadband. At present the 2nd & 3rd lines option is available to new customers and existing customers. Existing Small Business customers will also be offered this option in via the secondary shopping cart or via Business Sales..

Will I need special broadband equipment to use Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines?

  • To use Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines, you need broadband equipment with 2nd & 3rd lines port that is specially designed to work with our next-generation broadband network. When you select the Small Business phone line option, we'll automatically add the correct equipment to your order.

Will I need a special phone / headset / microphone / software to use Bulldog 2nd Business phone line?

  • To useSmall Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines, all you need is a spare ordinary touch tone phone to plug into the 2nd & 3rd lines port of our broadband equipment.

Why do I need special broadband equipment to use Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines?

  • The broadband equipment with 2nd & 3rd lines port is specially designed to work with our next-generation broadband network. It is needed to convert voice calls made from ordinary phone into data packets and, vice versa, data packets into voice calls destined for the phone. It also sends and receives these packets over the broadband connection rather than your primary Small Business phone line. It allows you to share your broadband connection between your PC and Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines.

How much does Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines cost?

  • If you order Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines at the same time with Small Business service, there is no connection fee. The monthly fee is £10 ex VAT for the 2nd line and £7.00 ex VAT for the 3rd line and the broadband equipment with 2nd and 3rd lines port costs £30.00 ex VAT.

How do I activate my Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines?

  • On the day when your Small Business service is activated, you simply plug your PC and ordinary phone into the broadband equipment provided straight out of the box, power it up, and you are ready to use your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines.

How do I configure my special broadband equipment?

  • We pre-configure your broadband equipment with 2nd & 3rd lines port such that you can simply plug-and-play to use your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines. If you need to modify its data routing configurations, e.g. LAN, NAT, DHCP or firewall, then you can do this through its Web user interface. For example, if you have multiple static IP addresses, then you must configure your LAN and firewall yourself through the Web user interface. Please consult the manual to access the Web user interface.

Who and where can I call using my Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines?

  • Anyone and anywhere. Unlike voice over internet / broadband voice services offered by other providers, your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines have no call restrictions. Think of it simply as your 2nd & 3rd “primary” Small Business phone line.

What if I need to call UK emergency services on my Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines?

  • You can always call UK emergency service numbers (112 & 999) on your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines as well as on your primary Small Business phone line as long as you have your broadband service.

What happens to my Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines if I have a power failure and or lose my broadband service?

  • When you have a power failure at your premises or a fault with your broadband service, you will not be able to make any call using your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines, hence you will have to use your primary Small Business phone line in this case.

Am I tied in to my Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines for a set amount of time?

  • Unlike voice over internet / broadband voice services offered by other providers, your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines have no minimum contract. You can cancel it at anytime with one month’s notice.

If I cancel my Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines, can I keep my other services?

  • Your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines are an optional service on top of your Small Business service, so you can cancel and reconnect it as often as you like with one month’s notice without affecting your primary Small Business phone line or broadband services.
  • By cancelling your 2nd & 3rd lines service, you will lose the number associated with it, unless you transfer the number to a different provider.

  • By cancelling your Small Business service, you will also cancel your Small Business 2nd & 3rd phone lines. You can keep your broadband equipment with 2nd & 3rd line port, but it is specially designed to work only with our next-generation broadband network.
